                                                                    About Shree Coorg

Music is a passion for Shree.  She began her journey at age 11, when she had the opportunity of working with Sri Venkataramaiah.  Under his tutelege, she successfully passed the Junior Exam in music in Bangalore, India.  Shree continued to pursue her passion for singing during the following years.  She is trained in the art of "kaavya vaachana," or poetry in song, by Kamala Ramakrishna.  She then passed the first examination for this art form as well.  Since then, Shree has remained dedicated to learning music, and has learned from other musical maestros, including Srividya Chandramouli of Portland, Oregon, and teachers at Sadhana School of Arts.

While growing up in Bangalore, India, Shree shared her love for music with her love for Kannada, which was her favorite subject as a child.  She worked hard to develop this passion into an area of expertise.  During her high school and college days, Shree participated in Kannada recitation and writing competitions and is the recipient of numerous felicitations.  For example, Shree won first place in an essay competition during her youth sponsored by Kanchikamakoti Swamiji of Kanchikamakoti Peetha.  Swamiji later established the popular magazine Kamakoti Prabha, a mythological and spiritual Kannada magazine, and Shree was a featured colomnist for several years, contributing over seventy articles.  Since graduating college with a Masters degree in Kannada, Shree has authored six novels, including "Ranjita," published in Sudha magazine, and "Musukina Mareyalli," published in Prajamata magazine.  All of her novels have been well received.  She contributed several articles for Sudha and Prajamata magazines as well.

Shree also has vast experience in teaching and working with students.  Following college, Shree taught Kannada to high school children in Bangalore, India.  Soon, she transitioned to working with undergraduate students at the BNM College for women.  She has also worked as a private tutor to children taking Kannada Sahitya Parishat exams.  After her marriage, Shree moved to Seattle, Washington, where she currently has two children.  She has passed her love for Indian culture to her children, who are well versed in the Indian art forms.  In fact, Shree's most cherished students have been her own children, who learned music from her during their childhood.

Despite her busy schedule of caring for her family and working at the library, Shree found time to get an Associate degree in library technology with honors at Highline Community College.  Currently, Shree still juggles her family life, her love for music and Kannada, and her job with the Kent School District as a paraeducator.  Last year, Shree established her own school of music, and now has nine students of all ages. She has found this experience to be very rewarding and is excited for the future of music.
